Hello all,
This last weeks sermon was based on the lectionary texts: 2 Peter 3:8-15a, Mark 1:1-8. There were also Isaiah 40:1-11 and Psalm 85:1-2, 8-13.
I am just going to throw out there some questions and some things I thought were interesting about these text and it would be great if you would like to comment. If you thought I was way off base, please let me know. I am always looking to grow my understanding of the word.
First off I always like to link the new and old testaments when ever I can. It gives me a sence of oneness to the bible. Look at Isaiah 40:3 and Mark 1:2-3. These tow verses were what Nancy was focused on in her sermon. Make the path straight for the Lord. Help people to be able to accept the good news.
There is something else that I thought was interesting in these passages. Look at 2 Peter 3:8-9, 14-15. God loves us. He says, “but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish, but all to come to repentance” and “regard the patience of our Lord as salvation.” Some people think the time of Jesus’ return is near. People have thought this thruout time. God is saying he is patient. He wants all to come to him. He loves us all and is willing to wait it seems, until the path has been put straight for all, so they may experience salvation.
There is a lot to these scriptures that could be said. You just have to look. Read them over a few times. I am sure I have missed some. What do you think? Do you see anything interesting? What do you think of what I said?
Blessings,
Curt
Hello
This is our church’s first blog. Welcome. I hope this will be a good place to share our thoughts and feelings about scripture. Do you have questions? Do you need answers? This is the place. I will post scripture from the Saturday and Sunday services and you can comment on them. Here is a poll on the new web site. Let me know if you like it or not.
Blessings,
Curt Magelky
